Courses and events

The School of Geography host a wide range of events.

We host the East London branch of the Geographical Association. This network is free to attend and open to all teachers, regardless of teaching status or location of school. We offer a regular series of lectures, master classes and practical sessions suitable for teachers and interested A Level students. These twice termly events offer the chance to update your subject knowledge, share resources, plan for the new specifications and engage your sixth formers in learning from university lecturers.

As a new branch, we are keen to develop the East London GA as something that is of value to teachers and students alike. As such, we would value your ideas with regard to future events you would like to see taking place within the branch. Please contact the East London GA with your suggestions or to be added to our events mailing list.

We are an institutional partner of the London Geography Alliance and host subject refresher events for teachers on specific topics in geography and environmental science. The LGA was set up in 2013 with funding from the London Schools Excellence Fund.

Professor Owens talks to local teachers about A Level geography changes, 2017.The QMUL public lecture programme – incorporating regular inaugural lectures by professors from across the university – includes many events of interest to geographers. These lectures are usually free to attend but must be booked in advance.

As part of the University of London, the School of Geography takes part in the annual taster day programme for year 12 students.

The School of Geography also hosts a full programme of research events, many of which are open to geographers outside the university. Further information is available here.  Get in touch if you or your students would like to attend a research event.
