‘Community Organising in the Labour Party’
Research Interests:
Political geography; community organising; the Labour Party; left wing coalitional politics; the history of the British labour movement, communitarianism; public policy.
PhD Research:
After studying Human Geography at the University of Liverpool and Development Studies at the University of Manchester, James spent two years on the National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP) for Local Government, focusing on social housing estate regeneration, internal corporate affairs and local political engagement.
James’ PhD will examine the emerging interest in community organising within the Labour Party, and in doing so:
- Attempt to locate these developments within the history of the British labour movement
- Highlight the significance for wider debates about the nature of good governance and the future of democratic socialism
- Document the impact that new community organising techniques are having on the ground.
