Research interests:

Research areas: uneven industrial growth, regional capital accumulation, productivity dynamics, cost recovery and sunk costs, firm marketing strategies, technology parks, European Union, Greece

Konstantinos Melachroinos's research interests cover a wide range of topics within the broad field of economic geography. A substantial part of his research focuses on issues of regional productivity dynamics, capital accumulation, cost recovery and sunk costs. Greek cities and regions have provided an exciting empirical context, while the findings have been utilised in assessing the effectiveness of state regional policy in that country. Similarly, theoretical considerations about the nature of the economic indicators applied in spatial analysis form another important aspect of this work. More recent research themes include the exploration of the spatial dimension of firm marketing strategies, especially the new geographies of uneven development that are shaped as a result of them, and the study of policies of innovation promotion in peripheral areas.

Finally, the examination of productivity disparities across the European Union is another major project. This research has been supported through a Leverhulme Special Research Fellowship. A recent development in relation to this research is the current secondment to the OECD to work in a project involving the expansion of the OECD Territorial Database with a view to evaluate regional policies in member states.
