Research interests:
My research background is in community physical activity programmes, where I have worked for the past 4 years on the Liverpool Active City (LAC) programme at Liverpool John Moores University. During this period I was the research lead on a number of process and project evaluations surrounding active travel, the natural environment and environmental determinants of physical activity participation and bio-psychosocial health. Much of the LAC work was grounded within the obesity ‘epidemic’ and increasing levels of physical activity against national figures. Throughout this period I worked in partnership with LAC stakeholders (including the Liverpool City Council and Primary care Trust) to provide research, evaluation and guidance of health promotion interventions. I am presently working on the ‘Healthy Towns Evaluation Project’ with Dr. Steve Cummins.
My research interests lie in the environmental determinants of bio-psychosocial health; with a view to contributing to research that supports a multidisciplinary approach to policy change. I am also interested in qualitative approaches that offer an understanding of an experience in the context of personal and social circumstances.
