A message from the Geography Society...
Dear Students,

Congratulations on securing your place and becoming a part of Queen Mary's School of Geography!

You're about to embark on an adventure of a lifetime, one you'll never forget. It may seem daunting at first, but I know a helping hand more than willing to invite you in and make you feel at home.

My name is Danial, and I want to introduce you to the Queen Mary Geography Society (QMGS).

Our society aims to create a strong sense of community amongst geographers, and environmental scientists through various academic, social and professional events targetted to your interests and preferences.

Catarina, Olly, Kendra, Livia, Becca, Jo and I are excited to share this year with you. We have some exciting events planned. First off, we will invite you all to join us for a pizza party and welcome quiz during Freshers' Week. That's where you'll meet some of your coursemates and hopefully some lifelong friends.

To make sure you're up-to-date with us, feel free to follow us on our social platforms. We'll post all event updates, internship and work opportunities, volunteering projects and more on there!

Social events will include movie nights, zoo trips, bowling, trampolining and rock climbing. While professional events will consist of networking events and careers lectures.

We want to assist the local community this year and give back. That's why we are holding charity events throughout the year. Also, we have some grand surprises in store. But, you'll have to wait and see what they are.

No matter what, we're here to support your first year here at Queen Mary. It's going to be a unique transition, but with all the resources at your disposal, such as the Peer Assisted Study Support (PASS), the QMSU Buddy Scheme and our fantastic Course Reps – it should be a breeze.

We have no doubt you'll enjoy your time at Queen Mary. We hope to be a part of that experience and make it as smooth as possible.

We look forward to meeting you in September, but until then, enjoy the rest of your summer and connect with us on social media if you have any questions!

With best wishes,
Danial

What happens next?
Your very first week at university is called Welcome Week and it runs from Monday 17 to Friday 21 September 2018. During the week you'll be able to enrol, meet our staff and your coursemates, meet your Academic Adviser, take part in fresher's activities organised by the Students' Union, and more. You will be expected to attend all activities during the week that are relevant to you. Teaching will start on Monday 24 September. The full timetable and what you need to do will be sent to you closer to time in September.
Haven't sorted accommodation yet?
We are hosting a 'Find a flatmate' event on Tuesday 4 September where you'll be able to meet other Queen Mary students who are searching for accommodation. You will also be able to speak to our team of housing advisors, who can provide you with specific advice geared to your housing needs.

If you don't get a place in halls, please don't be discouraged! We are here to help and ease your transition into university life, so please feel free to contact our housing team at any time.

We will be in touch again soon but in the meantime, if you have any questions or queries at all, feel free to ask us

We look forward to seeing you in September!

With best wishes,
