The School of Geography at Queen Mary University of London is looking to hire three permanent colleagues (lecturers or senior lecturers); two in physical geography/environmental science and one in human geography. A fixed-term postdoctoral post is also open for applications, and we are seeking expressions of interest for Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships too.   

Lectureships or Senior Lectureships in Physical Geography / Environmental Science

We are seeking to appoint two high calibre scientists who will contribute to and enhance the research and teaching activities of the School’s Earth Surface Science research theme in one or more of the broad fields of catchment and river science; biogeosciences; and geo-archives of environmental change. At least one successful applicant is likely to have expertise in geo-spatial science.

Lectureship or Senior Lectureship in Human Geography

Applications are invited for a permanent lectureship/senior lectureship in human geography which will enhance the research and teaching activities of the School of Geography and its internal and external collaborations. Applicants are invited from those whose research and teaching fits within the School’s Economy, Development and Social Justice research theme.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant - 'The Social and Cultural History of Anglican Vicarages in late Twentieth-Century Urban Britain'

Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the School of Geography. The post-holder will work closely with Professor Alastair Owens during his term as Head of School and will be responsible for: (i) conducting research on Professor Owens’s project on the social and cultural history of Anglican vicarages in late twentieth-century urban Britain; and (ii) supporting Professor Owens’s other research activity and wider collaborative work with museums and other non-university partners.

Call for Expressions of Interest in Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships

The School of Geography will support a number of applications to the Leverhulme Trust’s Early Career Fellowships (ECF) scheme in the 2018 competition and is looking for expressions of interest from early-career researchers interested in working with us. The ECF programme offers an excellent source of funding for outstanding early-career researchers, who have not held a full-time permanent post in a UK university.
