National Student Survey results for Geography

Overall satisfaction is 95 per cent among Human Geography students at Queen Mary University of London, according to the latest results of a nationwide poll of final-year undergraduates.

The 2013 National Student Survey (NSS) questioned UK undergraduates on various aspects of their student experience, including their overall satisfaction.

The NSS results also show the School of Geography scoring highly in many other core categories:

Human Geography

  • Overall satisfaction amongst our students is at two-year high
  • 96 per cent of students are satisfied with their teaching
  • 94 per cent of students are satisfied with the organisation and management of their course
  • 89 per cent of our students are satisfied with their academic support
  • 88 per cent of our students are satisfied with their learning and resources (up 20 per cent in three years)
  • 85 per cent of students are satisfied with their personal development

Physical Geography

  • Overall student satisfaction is 89 per cent
  • 92 per cent of students are satisfied with the organisation and management of their course (up 16 per cent in three years)
  • 87 per cent of students are satisfied with their teaching
  • 85 per cent of students are satisfied with their learning and resources

Professor Miles Ogborn, Head of the School of Geography at Queen Mary, welcomed the results: "We are very pleased in the School of Geography that our students are responding so thoughtfully and enthusiastically to the innovative and challenging programmes that we offer in Geography and Environmental Science. The high and rising levels of satisfaction shown in the NSS demonstrate a real commitment to teaching and learning by both students and staff."

NSS 2013 results for Queen Mary overall show that 89 per cent of its students are satisfied with the quality of their course, a five-year high and three percentage points above the national average. Among Russell Group universities nationally, QM’s students are now the eighth most satisfied.
