Welcome to the Homeless Places
Project, a project funded by the Economic and Social
Research Council (Award Number: R000238996)
|

|
The Homeless Places Project provides a detailed picture
of the emergency services available to single homeless
people in the UK (outside of London).
Drawing upon a national survey of providers, the project
has mapped the supply and use of night shelter and hostel
accommodation, day centres and soup runs across Britain.
Working in seven towns and cities of differing size
and levels of provision the project has examined:
- the reasons behind variations in the number of
services to be found in different places
- the role of such services in the lives of homeless
people
- and the experience of staff, volunteers and service
users.
The project was funded by the Economic
and Social Research Council [New window] and co-ordinated
by the School
of Geographical Sciences, University of Bristol
[New window] and the Department of Geography, Queen
Mary, University of London
Informing policy and practice
A central aim of the Homeless Places Project was to
provide information that might inform better policy
and practice so as to improve the services available
to single homeless people. Outputs relating to the project
are therefore available for downloading free of charge.
Papers and directories available for downloading are
attached to each of the links below. The research
team welcomes any enquiries about the project. Click
