English Language Requirements

If English is not your native language, you will need to provide evidence that you have an appropriate level of proficiency by taking a recognized English language test such as IELTS or TOEFL. Minimum scores required in the various English language tests are outlined below:

IELTS: 7 overall
TOEFL paper based test: 610
TOEFL IBT: 100

(Please note, IELTS and TOEFL test scores are valid for a maximum period of 2 years from the time at which the test was taken).

If your offer of a place on the program is conditional upon achieving a score in IELTS, TOEFL or another English language test, and you have not quite reached the required standard, (e.g. your offer letter says 7.0 and you only have 6.5) you may be given the opportunity to attend the College’s  presessional course for a specified period of time instead of taking IELTS or TOEFL again. At the end of the presessional course you can enter the PhD program directly.

If you have recently studied or worked in the medium of English, the requirement to take an English language test may be waived.
